1) Protect yourself with a properly licensed and insured contractor, ensuring the work will be performed in accordance with California State Building Code requirements. Unlicensed contractors doing repairs are not regulated by the state of California and operate illegally without proper documentation and verification of their knowledge and training.
2) You have little-to-no legal recourse available to assist you in the event that a job is performed unsatisfactorily and cannot be reconciled with the contractor.
3) Licensed contractors are required to pass board-certified tests in all areas of their respective business field(s) in order to be approved for licensing.
